Obituary

Acushnet - Emma Elizabeth “Jean” J. (Sutcliffe) Goldrick, 85, died peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2008 with family members present. She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Robert N. Goldrick.

Born in Puerto Rico, grew up in Tennessee with her mother, Lena Sutcliffe, she returned to Puerto Rico to live with her father, LeGrande Sutcliffe. Married in 1942, she returned to her husband’s hometown, New Bedford, for the duration of World War II. As a career Army officer’s wife, “Jean” held her family together through numerous postings world wide from Okinawa to Germany and to many Army bases across the United States.

Among her many accomplishments, she was a licensed practical nurse, taught American Sign Language, volunteered with American Red Cross, was a den mother and world traveler.

She was a noted Harlequin romance novelist, whose many books were translated and published in 28 languages. Emma was a member of the American Romance Writer’s Guild.

She was the loving mother of 4 children: Michael R. Goldrick and his wife Jane F. Conway of Westport, David L. Goldrick and his wife Lenora R. Pennington of Acushnet, Jeanne E. Goldrick of Fall River and Robert F. Goldrick and his wife Valarie A. Goldrick of South Bend, OR; beloved sister of Jacqueline Razzano of Wilmington, NC; devoted grandmother to 8 wonderful boys; caring sister-in-law of Jackie Goldrick of Acushnet and Ethel Chase of E. Providence, RI; and proud aunt of many nieces and nephews.

She was sister of the late Marion “Sally” Sutcliffe.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, November 24, 2008 at Grace Episcopal Church, New Bedford at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Sunday 2 - 5 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.

Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
