Grayslake, IL: Richard M. Sousa, age 55 of Grayslake and a former Salem resident, died suddenly at his home on November 13, 2008. He was the husband of Geraldine R. (Pollard) Sousa.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of Lorraine D. (Poitras) Sousa of Salem and the late Manuel J. Sousa. He was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School and received his B.A. degree in English from University of Massachusetts Amherst and his M.B.A from Northeastern University Boston.
Dick worked for over 25 years in various areas of business and most recently in telecommunications and call center management. Prior to the founding of his own consulting company, RMS Associates, he was the executive vice president of the international company Zurich in Chicago.
Dick was an athlete who also loved the theater and performing arts. Over the years, he ran numerous marathons, including the Boston and the New York. In theater, he performed in many regional little theater productions as both an actor and singer.
A devoted husband, father and family man, in addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Nathaniel J. Sousa and a daughter, Elizabeth Sousa, both of Grayslake, IL, 4 brothers, Robert A. Sousa and his wife Lydia of Peabody, John D. Sousa and his wife Kate of Salem, Stephen M. Sousa and his wife Chris of Newburyport, Thomas P. and his wife Cindy of Beverly, 2 sisters, Laurie A. Green and her husband Gregory and Lisa J. Anderson and her husband Ben all of Salem. Dick is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial mass on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 9 am in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem. A committal service will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem.
