Susan (Constantinides) Dedopoulos, 90, of New Bedford died peacefully on Wednesday November 19, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by her family after a long and fulfilling life. She was the wife of the late Andrew Dedopoulos.
Born in Lowell, the daughter of the late Costa and Vasiliki (Calivas) Constantinides, she moved to New Bedford after her marriage in 1948.
She was a active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope.
Mrs. Dedopoulos and her late husband owned and operated the Orchid Diner for many years until retiring in 1974. During World War II, she worked for the U.S. War Department in Washington, D.C.
She enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, and socializing with her many Greek friends. Known affectionately as Yia Yia to her family and friends, she was especially close and devoted to her three grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, Niki Keyser and her husband George of Cincinnati, OH, Stuart Dedopoulos of Durham, NH, and Dean Dedopoulos and his wife Mary of Bethlehem, PA; three grandchildren, Rebecca Bryson and her husband Josh, Jonathan Keyser, and Meredith Dedopoulos; a sister, Helen Otis of Saugus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late George Constantinides and John Conn.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 1-4 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
