Mary (Volpe) Gardner-Barron of Medford, died at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain on Tuesday morning, November 18, 2008. She was 79 years old.
Born in Dedham, Massachusetts, on October 23, 1929, she was the beloved daughter of the late Frederick and Theresa (Violante) Volpe. Mary was a communicant of St. James Parish for many years and more recently of the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. She had been employed for many years as a cafeteria worker for the Medford School System. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, especially growing vegetables and flowers. She also enjoyed cooking and walking. Mary was a very generous person, always giving of her self to anyone in need.
She will be sorely missed by one son and daughter-in-law; Ronald M. and his wife Dianne M. Gardner of Medford, one daughter and son-in-law; Marilyn E. and her husband James M. Lombardi of Tewksbury, three grandchildren; Tara Lombardi and her husband Alfred Cervera, Ronald Gardner and Brian and his wife Debbie Gardner. She was also the mother of the late Elaine H. Gardner and Robert E. Gardner.
Visiting hours were held Thursday, November 20, 2008, from 4 to 8 PM in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., Medford. Her funeral was held Friday, November 21, 2008, at 9AM in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St. Malden. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
