Elizabeth A. "Betty" Basha, 86, of Methuen, Massachusetts passed away on Sunday, November 16th, 2008 at her home.
She was born in Lawrence, MA. to the late Elias J. and Victoria (Saba) Basha. Betty was educated in the Lawrence schools and later attended business school. She worked briefly in the Atlantic wool mill, then worked for over 30 years as a social worker in the Lawrence office of the state department of welfare. She served throughout her life as a volunteer, first during WWII making rope for parachutes, and more recently at Lawrence General Hospital, the Methuen Town Hall, various local nursing homes and manning the polls during elections.
She was a life long, very active member of St. Joseph's Melkite Church in Lawrence. She sang for many years with the Sweet Adelines, was an avid and adventurous world traveler, an excellent cook and loved to garden.
She is survived by her brother: Joseph Elias Basha of Springfield, OR, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins of the Basha, Saba and Shiepe families.
She was the sister to the late George F. Basha
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 24th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph's Melkite Church in Lawrence, MA.
Burial will take place in the United Lebanese Cemetery in North Andover, MA.
