N. DIGHTON – Charles R. Leonard, husband of the late Dorothy M. (Rubadou) Leonard, died on Nov. 14, 2008 at Life Care Center of Raynham. He was 99.
Born in Union, ME, he was the son of the late Perley O. and Mary E. (McPike) Leonard.
A resident of this area for many years, he graduated from Taunton High School in 1927.
A tree surgeon with the Hixon Tree Co., he retired many years ago.
A member of the Berkley Congregational Church, and former member of the Winthrop St. Baptist Church, Knights of King Arthur, his many interests included caning chairs, line dancing, fishing, ice skating and shrubbery work.
Known for his great sense of humor, he was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He leaves 2 daughters, Grace F. Doel and her husband William of Berkley and Edith Polanco and her husband Frank of the Dominican Republic; 6 grandchildren, Rebecca Marcoccia, Susan M. Flint, Charles D. Peirce, Nancy J. Ghilarducci, Robert Frazer and Bethany Sullivan; 2 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Travers and Keith Marcoccia; a niece, Joyce Pineo and a sister-in-law, Florence Leonard.
He was also the brother of the late Lloyd, Everett and Mildred Leonard.
Funeral Services will be held at the Berkley Congregational Church, 13 South Main St. Berkley on Wednesday, Nov. 19th at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Dighton Community Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
