Obituary

Jack Martin Delk, 71, of Summerville, husband of 50 years to Joyce Thirkell Delk died Friday morning, November 14, 2008 at Summerville Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 1:30 at Summerville Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Double Ponds Baptist Church Cemetery, Blackville, SC.
Friends may call at James a. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville this evening from7 until 8:30.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in Jack’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, Charleston, SC 29406, Summerville Baptist Church Building Fund, 417 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483 or to a charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Delk was born February 9, 1937 in the Double Ponds Community of Barnwell County, son of the late Martin Luther Delk and Rebecca Elizabeth Kinard Delk. He was a graduate of Summerville High School. From 1955-1956 he was a football player with Summerville Greenwaves when Coach McKissick began his career as football coach.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking and was a “jack of all trades.” He loved his church life at Summerville Baptist Church. He retired as plant engineer from Charleston Manufacturing Company.
Surviving in addition to his wife are:
1 son: James Leroy Delk and his wife Susan Graham of Little Mountain, SC
1 daughter: Laura Delk Wade and her husband Rick of Union, SC
6 grandchildren: Erin Wade Pierce and her husband Sam of Watertown, New York, Shannon and Kaitlyn Wade both of Union, SC, Jackson, Jarrett and Charlotte Delk all of Little Mountain, SC.
Several special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his 6 brothers and sisters.
