Dennis Griffin, 85 of Plymouth, formerly of Whitman, died Thursday November 13th in the Life Care Center of Plymouth, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Meekin) Griffin. Dennis was born in London, England, son of the late William and Ethel (Dockerill) Griffin. He was brought up in Dedham and attended Dedham Schools. He was a resident of Whitman for many years before moving to Plymouth. Dennis was a Corporal in the United States Marines Corp and received a purple heart during World War II .He retired from the Quincy Shipyard as a burner, after many years. Dennis was the Herring Warden of Plymouth, former president of the Hanson Rod & Gun Club, also a member of the Plymouth Rod& Gun club, Inland Fisheries Committee in Plymouth and the Whitman VFW Post #697.He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a avid, Gardner and loved the wildlife.
He is survived by, his children, Paul Griffin of Brockton, Roger Griffin of Wareham, John Griffin of Plymouth, David Griffin of Middleboro and Diane G. Lambert of Milton, His brother William Griffin of California.; grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 8.He was also the grandfather of the late Andrea and Brian Griffin.
His services will be held Monday November 17th at 10:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman .Internment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington, MA. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 9:00-10:00AM.Donations may be made in his name to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 55876, Boston, MA.02205
