Wilbert Smith, 76, of Ben Hill County, Georgia died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, November 15, at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church in Ben Hill County with Rev. Kevin Vickers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Smith was born July 25, 1932 in Coffee County to the late Bry and Phoebe Carver Smith. He lived in the community most of his life. Mr. Smith loved to farm and care for the land. He was former owner/operator of Tri County Feeder Pig Sales and South Central Live Stock. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He attended New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church and was a former member of the Georgia Cattlemen Association.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lois Smith of Ben Hill County; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Ann & Troy Johnson of Ben Hill County, Janice Griffin of Fitzgerald, Betty Sue & Thomas Stripling of Irwin County, Anita Fay & Keithern Young and Sylvia & Rickie Carver all of Ben Hill County; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Monroe & Lorene Smith of Fitzgerald, Quincy & June Smith of Indianapolis, IN and Vince & Edna Patton of Waterford Ontario, Canada as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Powell.
