Methuen, MA – Sidney J. “Sid” Scarth, 84, state trooper retired, and former Methuen City Councilor died November 11, 2008 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital.
Mr. Scarth was born in Lawrence son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Jackson) Scarth. He was a graduate of the Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen class of 1943. He attended Northeastern University for post graduate studies in criminal justice and for 25 years Mr. Scarth was a member of the Massachusetts State Police before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant.
During world war II he served his country in the United States Marine Corp. prior to his honorable discharge at wars end.
Sid was a former Methuen City Councilor, he served on the Methuen Housing Authority, and was the Assessor for the City of Methuen. He was also a member of the Methuen Board of Trade.
A lifelong resident of Methuen Sid is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary A. (Lever) Scarth, daughters Susan S. and her husband Gregory Ginchereau of Methuen, and Sheila J. and husband Dr. Thomas Anzaldi of Andover 4 grandchildren Jennifer and Jonathan Anzaldi, and Gregory, Jr. and Christopher Ginchereau as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock in Saint Lucy’s Church with burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery of Methuen.
Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
