Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Randall T. White, Sr., 85, retired Gloucester firefighter, died Monday, November 10, 2008 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. He was the husband of Natalie A. (Thatcher) White.
Born in Gloucester on June 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. and Pearl (Tucker) White. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1941. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served in Normandy, Northern France, England and Rhineland before being honorably discharged in September 1945.
Randall was employed as a firefighter and EMT for the City of Gloucester for thirty years before retiring as a Captain in 1978. He was a lifelong member of the Gloucester United Methodist Church. Active in Masonic circles, he was a member and Past-Master of Acacia Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Gloucester and a member of the fire brigade and marching unit of the Aleppo Shrine in Wilmington. He was also a Dad Advisor for the Cape Ann Chapter, Order of DeMolay.
In addition to his wife of nearly fifty-nine years, he is survived by three daughters, Susan A. Shofner of Gloucester, Diane C. White of Concord and Jo-Ann M. White of Nashua, NH, a son, Randall T. White, Jr. of Fairfax, VA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by a sister, Natalie Bartlett.
His funeral services will be held on Friday in the Gloucester United Methodist Church, Washington St., Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the charity of one’s choice. Interment will be held in the Wesleyan Cemetery, Gloucester.
