Jesup- Mrs. Sherry Blanton, age 62, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was a native of Liberty County living most of her life in Wayne County. She was a very active member of the Odum Church of God, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a Children’s Church teacher. Mrs. Blanton was a loving mother and wife.
She was preceded in death by her parents M.D. and Gwendolyn Chambless and two brothers Dewayne and Sonny Chambless.
She is survived by her husband of forty-two years Joe Bud Blanton of Jesup; one son: Tony and wife Amy Blanton of Jesup; two daughters: Marie and husband Tony Dubberly of Glennville and Sharon and husband Kevin McCrary of Jesup; six grandchildren: Benji and Cayla Blanton, Harley Thornton, Amber and Tina Dubberly, and Nancy McCrary; three brothers: Donnie and wife Debbie Chambless of Hinesvile, Buddy and wife Sharon Chambless of Tyler, Texas, and Dan and wife Judy Chambless of Columbia S.C.; one sister: Marlene and husband Richard Brown of Hinesville, several nieces and nephews and other loved ones also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 11:00 am from the Odum Church of God with Reverend Todd McDaniel and Reverend Kevin Dawson officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
Active Pallbearers will be John Robinson, Brent Daniels, Brad Daniels, Dell Stephens, John Allen Tillman, and Gordon Campbell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Odum Church of God Adult Sunday School Class.
