SOUTH GRAFTON__Genevieve A. (Szewerenka) Carlo, 73, formally of 148 Main Street, South Grafton, MA, passed away peacefully at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, Westborough, MA, surrounded by her family.
“Jenny” Carlo was born in Worcester, the daughter of Peter and Celia
(Walendziak) Szewerenka. She worked very hard with her sister and brother Alice and Chester, on the family farm in Sutton. Despite the fact that she spoke mostly Polish prior to the first grade, she excelled at school, including
academics, basketball, debate, and theater. She graduated Vice President of
Sutton High School's class of 1954. She worked briefly as a model for the former Denholm & McKay Company, and also as a teller at Guaranty Bank and Trust, both in Worcester.
In 1956, she married William H. (Duke) Carlo, also of Worcester. She eventually returned to Sutton, and worked many years at Pleasant Valley Country Club, before becoming the owner and operator of the Blue Jay Lobster Pond Restaurant in Sutton. She retired to South Grafton, and developed a keen interest in the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoyed scratch tickets and occasional trips to Foxwoods. She was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous and was cigarette and alcohol free for many years. She is known for having a big heart, being a hard worker, an
excellent cook, and for being a great friend and mother.
She leaves her two daughters and son-in-laws, Diane L. wife of Philip Mosczynski, and Deborah A. “Debbie” wife of Anthony Patella, both of Marlborough; one son, Jean Pierre “J.P.” Carlo and his fiancée Rose M. Garceau of Southbridge; a grandson, Jeffrey Stanley and his wife Carrie Ann Stanley of Millbury; a grand-daughter, Lacey M. Young; and a great grandson, Caden L. Atkins, both of Rome, Georgia.
The funeral will be held on Friday, November 14 from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester, MA with a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 33 Ward St., Worcester, MA. Interment will be at Notre Dame Cemetery, 162 Webster St., Worcester, MA. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home on Friday, November 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
