Obituary

Maurice J. Bedard, age 86, a Lowell native, recently of Dracut, died unexpectedly November 9th, 2008 in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Hamel) Bedard, with whom they celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 23rd.

He was born in Lowell on Sept. 1, 1922, son of the late Joseph P. & Yvonne (Bergeron) Bedard.

He attended and graduated from Lowell Schools then went on to serve his country in the US Navy during WWII. He served on Naval Destroyers from 1943 until his discharge in 1945 as a Ward Attendant, 3rd Class throughout the South Pacific and Asia including Okinawa, Iwojima, Marshall Islands and the Philippines.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years as a Lather in the construction industry.

He was a communicant of the St. Francis Church in Dracut. He was also a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and also the A.A.R.P.. He and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Naples, Florida. He loved taking care of and maintaining his home, as well as fishing.

Besides his wife Rita, currently residing at D'Youville Senior Care, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law: Roland & Laura (Spinney) Bedard of Hudson, NH; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Lefebvre, Pauline Deschenes and Lucille Loranger; also several nieces & nephews including Steve Dinsmore, Gail Stanwick, Joyce Dionne, Thomas, Steve, and Edward O'Toole.

He was also brother of the late Raymond A. Bedard and Doris O'Toole.

Relatives & Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm. His funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 8am with a Funeral Mass at St. Francis Church on Wheeler Road in Dracut at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the D'Youville Senior Care-981 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854.
