Dorothy Garriety Riggins, 91, Clarksville, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at her residence. The funeral will be held at 3 P.M. Tuesday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Revs. Bob Dixon, Greg Jones and Kim Smith officiating. Entombment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 P.M. until 8 P.M. Monday and from 1 P.M. until the hour of service Tuesday at the funeral home. She was born Nov. 7, 1916, in Clarksville, to James Frank and Joanna Sugg Garriety. She was married to Edward Mitchel Riggins for 47 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Frances G. Sanford, son-in-law, Robert(Bob) Banks and uncle, O.B. Sugg, who reared her. She was a graduate of Clarksville High School. "Miss Dorothy" was the office manager for 40 years at Phillips Elliott, Inc. She was a charter member of Altrusa International of Clarksville, where she also served as president, and at her death held Emeritis membership. Dorothy had served as president of the Monday Evening Music Club, and had held the office on the board of the Federation of Womens's Club. Her true passion in life was her church. She was a member of First Church of the Nazerene, where she sang in the church choir for over 60 years and taught Sunday School of over 50 years. She is survived by one sister, Ethel Mai Wright, two devoted daughters, Carolyn F. Riggins, Judith Banks Moore(Dennis), one step-grandaughter, Lanette White (Marty), and three step-greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers will be Billy Frank Hicks, C. David Elliott, Jeff Wright, David Wright, Richard Patton, Chris Patton, Vernon Hite and Charles Seay. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Caudill, Ray Doty, Jeff Geary, Billy R.
