Julia (Gabriel) Lopes, 87, of New Bedford died Wednesday November 5, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Adert "Jimmy" Lopes and Albert Rose.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joaquim and Rose (Almeida) Gabriel, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Lopes was formerly employed by Kay Winsor, Aerovox, and the Standard-Times.
She was a member of the Our Lady of the Assumption Club and the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Auxiliary. She was a former secretary of the Sacred Heart Association.
Survivors include two children, Claudeen Julia and her husband Albert of Oxon Hill, MD and Kenneth J. Lopes and his wife Guadalupe of San Jose, CA; her stepdaughter, Carol Parris of Dorchester; her nephew, Gary Correia of New Bedford; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Eva Correia and Antone Grace.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
