Aubrey Gene "Po-Boy" Holley, 71, of Tifton passed away Thursday, August 11, 2005, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2005, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Bill Brannon officiating. Mr. Holley was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Born July 19, 1934, in Thomaston, Aubrey was the son of the late Evelyn Dunn Holley and the Rev. George Fielder Holley He was the third of five children; and he was preceded in death his older brother, George Holley, Jr.; and a son, Robert Eugene Holley.
Aubrey owned and operated Holley Automotive in Tifton since 1968. He was affectionately known as "Po-Boy" as he raced stock cars from 1952 to 1988. During that time, he won the North Georgia Championship in 1958 and the NASCAR Georgia Sportsman Championship in 1965. He has been inducted into the Jacksonville Speedway's Hall of Fame in Jacksonville, Florida, the Valdosta Speedway Hall of Fame and the Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame.
In recent years, he has been enthusiastically involved in the Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame, assisting in the organization's establishment and growth. He has served as Vice President and recently was elected President. He left behind many loving friends from his involvement in business, racing and the Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame. He was also a member of Mount Zion Holiness Baptist Church in Enigma.
Aubrey is survived by his wife, Louise Lindsey Holley of Tifton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Nancy Holley of Tifton, Jerry and Teresa Holley of Covington and Carl and Elizabeth Holley of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Brandon Holley of Tifton, Alexis Holley of Covington and Carter Holley and Jared Holley, both of Valdosta; one brother, Alvin Franklin Holley of Zebulon; and two sisters, Lurlene Maddox of Jackson and Sara Ann Holley of Morrow.
