Margaret Catherin Thornton Sikes, 85, of Tifton passed away Friday, September 2, 2005, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2005, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown with the Rev. Stanley Hendricks officiating. Mrs. Sikes was laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sikes' grandson, as well as John Setters, Mark Sandifer, Steve Sandifer, Al Stephenson, Charles Dillard and Joey Sumner served as pallbearers.
Born February 23, 1920, in Cook County, Mrs. Sikes was the daughter of the late Moses Thornton and Kate Lynn Thornton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Irwin Benjamin Sikes, who passed away in 1988. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown. Mrs. Sikes' hobby was embroidery; and, through the years, hundreds of pieces of her handiwork have been given to her family and friends.
Mrs. Sikes is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and Tillman Sandifer of Tifton and Judy and Bobby Joe Sumner of Ashburn; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gaston Thornton of Douglas and Archie and Marian Thornton of Miami, Florida; two sisters; Mona Roberts of Fitzgerald and Mary Whiddon of Mayo, Florida; seven grandchildren, Steve Sandifer, Mark Sandifer, Joey Sumner, Dawn Hand, Paul Sandifer, Melissa Dillard and Paige Stephenson; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren
