Obituary

Alois "Al" James Pomahatch, 90, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at Tift Health Care. A graveside funeral service was held for Mr. Pomahatch at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2005, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he was laid to rest. The Rev. Herman Walker and the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiated.

Buddy Wiggins, Lee Atkinson, Kyle Dorminey, Ricky Allison, Anthony Allison and Caleb Atkinson served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the VFW in Tifton.

Born April 1, 1915, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr. Pomahatch was the son of the late John James Pomahatch and Olga Jolson Pomahatch. He was also preceded in death by one son, Alois James "Jimmy" Pomahatch, Jr.; three sisters, Ann Peterson, Dorothy Larson and Bernie Sides; and one brother, Albert Pomahatch. He was a retired painter; and he was a lifetime (charter) member of the VFW in Tifton. He was a veteran of World War II; and he had lived in Tifton for 64 years.

Mr. Pomahatch is survived his wife of almost 65 years, Maxine Hayman Pomahatch of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Ed "Buddy" and Joyce Pomahatch of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet Perry and Emmett Pope and Laraine and Herman Autry, all of Tifton; one sister, Eleanor Seroogy of Green Bay, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Amanda Leight; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
