Obituary

Robert J. McGrath, of Reading, formerly of Medford, died Wednesday, at the Winchester Hospital. He was 74.

Mr. McGrath was born and raised in East Boston, the son of the late Paul and the late Mary (O´Day) McGrath. Robert attended local parochial schools and graduated from East Boston High School. He served in the Air National Guard for several years. He worked for the phone company for over 44 years and is a member of the phone company retirees club and was a member of the IBEW. A Medford resident for almost 40 years, Robert and his wife moved to Reading four years ago. In his retirement Robert served as a volunteer at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital for six years and was quite proud of his service.


He was the beloved husband of Joan (Sweeney) McGrath. He was a devoted father to Janine McGrath of Stoneham and John R. McGrath of Wilmington. He was the dear brother of Paul J. McGrath of Saugus.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family, Friday 4 – 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
