Bixby, James E., of Marshfield, October 31,2008. Beloved husband of Mary c. Bixby. Loving father of James F. Bixby and his wife Mary E. of Holbrook, and Thomas C. Bixby and his wife Brandy of Rutland VT. Jim was the proud Grandpa of Robert, Lauren, and Luke Bixby. He will be lovingly missed by his family and friends. Jim was the son of the late Leroy and Eva Bixby. He is also survived by his brothers Charles, John, Richard, and his loving sister Annette Flanders of NH. and his brother Ernest of SD. Jim was the descendent of the 5 Bixby brothers who fought in the Civil War made famous by President Abraham Lincoln’s letter to Mrs. Bixby. Jim also served in the United States Navy for 4 years in the Korean War, on board USS Ticonderoga. He worked for many years at the Watertown Arsenal and the Boston Naval Shipyard. For many years he owned and operated Bixby’s Interstate Courier Service and Trucking Inc. He was an active life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Ma. and in NH., having served as Past Commander of Braintree Chapter 29. This year he was 1st JVC of the DAV State Dept. of NH., and the SVC of Chapter 1 NH. He is also served as a certified Chapter Service Officer of Chapter 1. He loved to volunteer at the VA Hospitals, visiting the veterans, assisting with parties, and bringing in donated clothing for the men and women. Jim was a life member of the Natl. Order of Trench Rats Dugout 294, having served also on the Sector and National levels. He was a Past Commander of the Braintree Veterans Council; a Life Member of Weymouth Elks Lodge# 2232; and a long-time member of the American Legion Dalton Post #0137. Jim was also a Eucharistic Minister for Our Lady of the Assumption Parish.
Visiting hours at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St (Rte 139) Marshfield on Tuesday November 4 from 4 to 8 PM. Ramp available at back of funeral home.
Funeral Mass Wednesday at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish 40 Canal Street Marshfield MA 02050 at 10:00 AM.
Interment will be at the Veterans National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30 PM.
