Donald E. Souza, 76, of New Bedford died Friday October 31, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Ford) Souza.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Jules Souza and Georgianna Harrop, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Souza had been the proprietor of Don's Lunch on County Street. He later was employed as a cook at the Savoy Convalescent Home.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Dr. C.E. Burt Chapter 7 and a member of the Pvt. A. Poirier Post 3260, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; seven children, Donald Souza and his wife Yvonne of Deltona, FL, Wayne Rogers and his wife Donna of McDonough, GA, Linda Souza of Mashpee, Colleen (Costa) Souza and her partner Charles Lynch of Raynham, Deborah (Rogers) Prout, Jacqueline (Rogers) Ulewicz and her husband Scott, and Donna (Souza) Heller, all of New Bedford; his daughter-in-law, Jan (Rogers) Paim of Dartmouth; two brothers, Richard Souza and his wife Lorraine of Wareham and Roger Souza and his wife Patricia of New Bedford; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Jack.
He was the brother of the late William Souza, Raymond Souza, and Dorothy Rogers.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
