Obituary

MARSHFIELD - Richard C. Dahlquist, 70, after a 3½ year battle with cancer. Survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Carol A.(Erwin); 4 children: Richard, Jr., his wife Kathleen (Horan), of Pembroke; Diane M. Farina, her husband David,of Duxbury; David E., his wife, Dianna (Dooley)of Marshfield; Susan M. Chapski, her husband Gerald of Medfield; his mother, Kathleen C. Dahlquist, 94, of Venice, Florida; three sisters, and two brothers.

“Papa” is also survived by 13 cherished grandchildren: Richard III, Katelyn, Sean and Abigail Dahlquist, Jaclyn, David, Jr., Allison and Andrew Farina, Alexa and David Dahlquist Jr., Melissa, Daniel and Michael Chapski. He loved and enjoyed a close relationship with each one of them.

Dick grew up in Newton, graduated from Belmont High School and Tufts University in 1960 with a BSEE. He still holds some all-time pitching records at Tufts and was a long-time member of Marshfield Country Club where he won four Club Championships, multiple Father / Son / Daughter tournaments and held the course record for many years. He also won the 1967 Southeastern Amateur Championship.

Dick worked for The Gillette Company in Boston for 29 years, including 15 years as Director of Research and Development. During that period he directed groups in France and the U.K. He retired and, in 1986, moved to Palm City, Florida, where, for 7 years he consulted for the Mavidon Corporation. He was also a member of Martin Downs Country Club. After 12 years in Florida, he moved back to Marshfield and was the Plant Manager for Osmonics, Inc. He also was a small business owner, ISO consultant and expert technical witness for many years. His passion for sports and helping others led him to coach teams in both Norwell and Marshfield youth organizations, raise funds to build the Marty Semler Cancer Research Lab at University Hospital and provide hope to new cancer patients via IMP clinics.

The funeral will be from the MacDonald Funeral Home at 10 AM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 AM at St. Ann by the Sea Parish, 591 Ocean Street, Ocean Bluff, MA.
Burial will follow at the Mayflower Cemetery, (Rte. 3A), Duxbury, MA 02332.
