Obituary

Claire (Jones) Herlihy, 63, owner of Frame It Studio & Gallery, died Oct. 24 at her home in Plymouth. Her birthday is Nov. 6.
A memorial service for Mrs. Herlihy will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, in St. Michael’s Church, 112 Randolph Ave.
Born in Stoneham, she attended Boston University and graduated from Fisher College.
Her priorities were clear. She valued being a wife, mother and loyal friend. She was excellent in every role.
She was on the Foundation Board of Milton Hospital, the Board of Directors of the Milton Chamber of Commerce and involved in many organizations. She was a member of the Board Forum, the South Shore Chamber of Commerce where she was a past director, the Women’s Business Connection, the Duxbury Art Association, the Milton Performing Arts and the Milton Garden Club.
She was involved in founding the Milton Art Museum.
She was committed to supporting local artists. Her shop held many receptions, art shows and other events to draw an audience for the work of artists of all sorts.
Earlier this year she sponsored a book signing for her friend Maggie Melanson who authored “Fly Fit.” The day after her death, her shop went ahead with a reception for Myrna Friedman’s paintings, “The Vitality of Life”.
She was a strong supporter of the art program at Milton High School and provided the school system with advice and materials. She showcased the work of the best high school artists annually, in her Milton store.
She was a member of Wollaston Golf Course for 30 years. She served as president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club where she had been a member.
When her sons were young she was an assistant soccer coach in the Town Soccer League, as well as the head coach of her son’s little league team in 1985. She was part of the Milton Food Coop in the 1970s and 80s. She was involved in parent activities in support of her sons’ schools, at Milton Academy and Thayer.
Before her marriage, she was involved in several political campaigns in the Boston area.
She was the daughter of the late William Hawthorne Jones and Elizabeth Clarke Jones. She is survived by her husband, John Herlihy, to whom she was married for thirty six years, her beloved sons, Jonathan Herlihy of California and Stephen Herlihy of Wyoming, and two brothers, Irvin Jones of Westford and William Jones of North Conway, NH.
