Joseph Medas Jr. of Bridgewater entered into rest at the Guardian Center of Brockton on Oct. 30 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. He was age 80.
Joseph was born in Bridgewater and was a life long resident of Bridgewater. He attended Bridgewater schools and joined the US Navy after his high school graduation.
After the war Joe worked for The Independent Nail Factory in Bridgewater and later he drove trucks for Rapid Line Express. Joe retired from JP Noonan Transportation of West Bridgewater after 28 years. After retirement Joe took a part time job as a school bus driver for Lucini Bus Lines of West Bridgewater.
Joe was known to be a hard worker and he took great pride in his family and his home. He could often be found gardening or doing yard work. He loved camping, traveling, dancing, country western music, and watching his beloved car #24 during NASCAR.
Joseph is the devoted husband of 58 years to Gloria (Gaskill) Medas. Loving father of Linda Perrault of Winchendon, Joseph Medas III and his wife Jacqui of Brockton, and the Rev. Michael B. Medas of Brighton. He is the son of the late Joseph Medas Sr. and Rose (Lawrence) Medas. Proud grandfather of 7 and great grandfather of 13. Brother of Clara Hockenberry of Wareham and Jerome “Jake” Medas of Fl. And the late Tony Medas, Richard Medas, and Irene (Medas) Gamache. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Mon, Nov. 3 at St. Thomas Church, Bridgewater at 10:00 am. Interment St. Thomas Cemetery. Visiting hours Sun. from 4-8pm at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rt.18), Bridgewater MA.
