Obituary

Edna M. (Cherry) Burke of Needham died on Wednesday October 29th at the Ellis Nursing Center in Norwood. She was 87 years old. Born In Boston, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Kingston ) and Edward Cherry. A longtime resident of Needham, Mrs. Burke was a former employee of Calvert’s Clothing store. A woman of great faith, she was a member of Saint Joseph Parish. Mrs. Burke will be long remembered for her love and devotion to her family. The beloved wife of the late Bernard S. Burke, she was the loving mother of Judith Stark of Norwood, Helen Sammarco of Norfolk, Patricia Hartigan of West Roxbury, Bernard Burke of Northboro, Catherine Petrie of Needham, Joseph Burke of Norwood and the late Stephen Burke. Sister of the late Helen Downs and Ethel Powderly. Dear grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Church 1360 Highland Ave Needham on Friday October 31 at 12:30 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave on Friday from 11:45 to 12:15 prior to Mass. Interment at Blue Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Edna’s name may be made to The Box Project (an organization helping families in rural poverty in America) Po Box 2266 Daytona Beach, FL 32115.
