Obituary

Polita (Rallis) Rappas, 93, past away Monday October 27th at the Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, Ma.

She was born May 31, 1915 in Lowell, Massachusetts a daughter of the late Apostolos and Stavroula Rallis. Wife to the late Peter Rappas.

Polita was a lifelong resident of Lowell having recently moved to Plymouth to be closer to her daughter. She was educated through the Lowell schools and later went on to work at Laganas Shoe as a stitcher and most recently worked with her Dad in the family coffee shop formerly known as Maxwell’s in downtown Lowell.

Polita was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell. She loved her church and served in many capacities, she was former President of the Holy Trinity Ladies Philoptochos Society, a former President of the Daughters of Penelope, a member of the church choir for over twenty years. She worked with church members to form the senior citizens group aka the Tuesday morning group.

In 1993, Polita was the recipient of the Archdiocese Laity Award in recognition of her dedicated and outstanding service to her church.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Iris Koumantzelis and her husband Christos of Plymouth, Estelle Spitz and her husband Salem of Gilbert, Arizona; five grandchildren, Pamela Flower and her husband Craig of California, Diane Sonberg and her husband Ken of Andover, Ma., Suzanne McCormac and her husband Michael of California, Jonathan Spitz and his wife Sherry of Arizona, and Rebecca Torres and her husband Manuel of Maryland; twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Polita was pre-deceased by her sister, Eugenia Cunningham, two brothers, James Rallis, and Harry Chrystie, and her grandson, David Spitz.

Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St. Lowell on Thursday from 4 to 8pm. Her funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Friday at 9am with services at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell at 10a.m. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Holy Trinity Church, Lewis St. Lowell, Ma. 01854.
