Obituary

Plymouth: Jeannette L. Gray age 91, a retired nurse and former resident of Lynn, died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Newfield House in Plymouth. She was the wife of the late Arthur M. Gray.

Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Laura (LeBel) Ouellette. She was a graduate of St. James High School in Salem and the Holy Ghost Hospital School of Nursing in Cambridge. Most of Jeannette’s nursing career was with the Salem Hospital in the surgical care unit. Following her retirement from Salem Hospital she worked as a private duty nurse. Jeannette was always known for her compassionate care for each of her patients.

A resident of Lynn for many years, she was at one time very active in the Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS). Her other interests were, antiquing, cooking, gardening and canning. Jeannette moved to Plymouth, from Lynn, 3 years ago, due to failing health. With ‘Diamond Lil’ as a nickname, she enjoyed playing cards and teaching residents the ins and outs of poker.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Lorraine M. Schmegner and her husband Edmund of Centerville, Jeannine R. Washburn and her fiancée Glenn Brayman of Plymouth, a sister, Beatrice Lavoie of Topsham, ME, a brother, Roger Ouellette and his wife Rose of Salem, 4 grandchildren, Danielle Duggan and her husband Gerard Clements of Pembroke, Wendy Dubuc and her husband Marc of Belgium, Katie Fitzgerald and her husband Scott of S.Boston, Charles P. Washburn, V and his fiancée Marissa LeBeau of Dalton. She is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jeannette was predeceased by her brother Edmond Ouellette and her former husband Leo G. Loranger.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 9 am at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by her funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 10am. Visiting hours: Tuesday 4 to 8 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
