Mrs. Doris T. (Girard) Stigh, of Dighton and formerly of Taunton, died Friday,
October 24 in the Life Care Center of Raynham following a lengthy illness. She was
the beloved wife of the late John E. Stigh, Sr. She was born 81 years ago in Taunton,
the daughter of the late Henry D. and Laura I. (Boucher) Girard. She was educated in
Taunton and was a 1945 graduate of Taunton High School. During her senior year,
she attended special clerical classes, which enabled her to become the assistant to the
Commandant of the former Camp Myles Standish during the latter years of World
War II. Following the War, Mrs. Stigh was offered a position at the Pentagon, which
she was unable to accept due to family responsibilites. Prior to her retirement, she had
been employed as a secretary at Morton Hospital for 18 years, retiring at age 76. She
enjoyed gardening, birdwatching and life at her home on the Taunton River. She was
a communicant of the former St. Jacques Church.
She leaves:
2 sons: Retired Taunton firefighter John E. Stigh, Jr. of No. Dighton
Paul F. Stigh of Dighton
1 brother: Richard R. Girard of Taunton
2 granddaughters: Jessica Lee Stigh of Taunton
Danielle Marie Stigh of Taunton
3 nieces and 1 nephew
Mrs. Stigh was also the mother of the late Carol A. Stigh and the sister of the late
Henry R. Girard.
Private funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay
Street on Wednesday, October 29. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend
the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Jude the Apostle Church, 249 Whittenton Street at
10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visiting Hours are omitted.
