Harry Raymond “Ray” Morse, Jr. 71 died Friday October 24th after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Maureen A. (Regan) Morse.
Born in Gardner and raised in Westminster he was the son of the late Harry R. and Barbara (Howard) Morse and a graduate of Gardner High School, where he was a talented member of the Art Club.
He worked as a grounds keeper for the Thorny Lee Golf Club in Brockton for 28 years, as well as part time for the Rockland Golf Course for five years.
Ray was a descendant of the Mayflower and a member of the Mayflower Society, the Stetson Kindred, the Whitman Historical Society and the Historical Society of Old Abington.
A Whitman resident for over forty years he was a communicant of the All Saints Church and a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. He was also a member “Ireland’s Own.” He loved gardening and was an avid reader.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Mary Wood of Whitman, his brother Henry Morse of Sterling Junction, his aunt Beulah D. Howard of VT and his grandsons David A. Wood, III, Joseph R. Wood, and James W. Wood.
His services will be held Tuesday Oct. 28th at 12:15 PM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral service at 1 PM in the All Saints Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Monday Oct. 27th from 6 – 9 PM.
