Lawrence D. Getchell, a 35 year resident of Charlestown, and formerly of Epping, New Hampshire, died on Thursday October 23, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.
Larry was born in Boston on April 13, 1949. He grew up in Epping, New Hampshire where he attended school there and graduated from Epping High School. He also attended Suffolk University in Boston for 2 years. Larry was working for The Massport Authority at Logan International Airport in Boston as a supervisor for transportation and mailing within thier general services for over 20 years. He was also very involved in the Charlestown youth activities for many years.
Larry is the devoted father of Melanie Schiavone and her wife Michelle Schiavone of Peabody, Ryan Getchell and Brent Getchell both of Charlestown. He is the beloved brother of Robert Getchell of Florida, Jake Getchell of Everett, Pearl Capraro of Medford, Ralph Getchell of Medford, Paul Getchell of Haverhill, Freddie Getchell of New Hampshire, Greg Getchell of Wilmington, the late Ruth "Jeannie" Marino, Elizabeth Whitney, Arthur "Billy", Richie, Joe and James Getchell.
Larry's Funeral will be held on Tuesday October 28, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday October 27, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery in Epping, New Hampshire.
