John Anthony Lopes, 52, of New Bedford died Tuesday April 15, 2003 unexpectedly at home. He was the son of Edward A. Lopes of New Bedford and the late Amelia G. (Vieira) Lopes.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Lopes was employed at Chamberlain Manufacturing for many years.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
He loved his family, especially his nieces, nephews and Ti Ti.
Survivors include his father; a brother, Edward Lopes, Jr., of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Beverly Penha and Dorothy Lopes, both of New Bedford, and Jeannette Santos of Marion; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; 2 great-nieces and 6 great-nephews; and many aunts uncles and cousins.He was the brother of the late Nancy Lopes and Norman Lopes, and grandson of the late Joao and Gertrude Vieira and August and Eugenia Lopes.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 19, 2003 at 8 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday April 18, 2003 from 4-8 PM.
