Thomas M. Lafond
Laconia-Thomas Maurice Lafond, 81, of 11 Mistwood Lane, formerly of Cram Road Sanbornton, died Thursday evening, October 23, 2008 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Thomas was born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 19, 1927 the son of the late Leonard and Florence (Perras) Lafond, moving to Manchester at the age of 6. He had been a resident of Laconia and Sanbornton for most of his life.
Thomas attended Brown School in Manchester, and graduated from St. Joseph Academy Berthier, P.Q., Canada. Honorably serving his country during WWII, Thomas is a United States Army veteran. Upon his discharge he reenlisted in the New Hampshire Air National Guard.
Prior to his retirement, Thomas worked for 25 years as a machinist at the former Scott & Williams, Inc. He had also been employed by Pike Industries, Inc, and Rival Precision.
Thomas was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Among his many interests he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, helping his neighbors, and the many camping trips he took every year with his family. Most of all he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Thomas was predeceased by three sisters, Cecile Cantin, Gilberte Trudeau, and Rita Caron.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lucille T. (Cormier) Lafond of Laconia; two sons, Donald Lafond of Laconia, and Robert Lafond of Seattle, Washington; one daughter, Terese Veysey and her husband Douglas of Franklin; one sister, Madeleine Montminy of Manchester; two grandchildren, Katherine Veysey of Seattle Washington, and Daniel Veysey of Franklin. Many nieces and nephews also survive Thomas.
Visiting hours were on Monday, October 27, 2008 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial Home, 139 Church Street, Laconia.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia. Reverend Adrien R. Longchamps pastor of the church was the celebrant. Burial with military honors followed in the family lot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street.
