WORCESTER____Helen C. (Lucas) Garbauskas, 94, of Worcester died Oct. 19, 2008 at her son’s home in South Yarmouth. Her husband, Bernard Garbauskas died in 1980.
She leaves two sons, Bernard J. Garbauskas and his wife Mary, of South Yarmouth and Niskayuna, N.Y., and Stanley J. Garbauskas of Worcester; three grandchildren, Matthew Garbauskas of Niskayuna; Jessica Harris and her husband, Jeromy of Auburn and Michael Garbauskas of Worcester; nephews, nieces and a grand niece. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, John Lucas and Joseph Lucas both of Worcester and Eva Meixner of Cleveland, Ohio. She was born in Worcester, a daughter of John S. and Katherine (Jankauskas) Lucas and lived here all of her life.
Mrs. Garbauskas was a cafeteria worker 15 years for the City of Worcester School Dept. She worked at Providence St. Junior High School and retired many years ago. During World War II Helen worked for Wyman Gordon Co for several years. She was a former member of Our Lady of Vilna Church, was a member St. Catherine of Sweden Church, the Lithuanian Women’s Club, the U.S. Steel Retiree s Club and the AARP. She was a big fan of the Red Sox.
The funeral will be held on Thursday Oct. 23, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Avenue. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday Oct. 22, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice and Palliative Care, 434 Route 134, South Dennis, MA. 02660.
