Obituary

Marcelino R. "Charlie" Gomes, 87, of New Bedford died October 20, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Priscilla B. "Pat" (Burgo) Gomes.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John R. and Eugenia (Andrade) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Gomes was formerly employed as a custodian at the T.A. Green School and Alfred Gomes School for 31 years until retiring as senior custodian.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Gomes was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Army Occupational Medal of Germany, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a loving, devoted family man with a great sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John Gomes and his wife Brenda J. Gomes of Acushnet; a sister, Lillian Gomes of Berkeley, CA; a granddaughter, Karen DeMedeiros of New Bedford; 2 great-grandchildren, Aaron and Jacquelyne; several nieces and a nephew.
He was the brother of the late Nora Harris, Mildred Baptista and Gladys Powers.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 23rd at 10 AM at the International Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, October 22nd from 5-8 PM.
