Ronald Richard Crowell,71, of New Bedford died Monday October 20, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Kathryn L. (Tyler) Crowell.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John R. and Gertrude C. (Castino) Crowell, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Mr. Crowell was employed as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bryant College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 - 1964, having been stationed at Fort Holabird, MD, while working at the Pentagon.
He served as the President of the New Bedford High School Gridiron Club in 1985.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald Richard Crowell, Jr. and his wife Sandra Rodrigues Crowell and Peter Scott Crowell and his wife Ursula Wilkinson Crowell, all of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Madison Kate Crowell, Ryon James Crowell, Grant Benjamin Crowell, and Anya Stacia Crowell.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours Wednesday 5-8 PM prior to the service.
