TEWKSBURY: Frederick W. Brothers, age 83, a lifelong Tewksbury resident, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Lowell General Hospital.
He was the husband of Lorraine (Eagan) Brothers, with whom he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 30, 2008
Born in Boston on October 27, 1924, he was the son of the late Frederick P. and Dorothy (Dowd) Brothers.
Mr. Brothers attended Tewksbury schools.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Navy and was awarded several decorations for his military service.
Following World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served during peacetime for three years until his honorable discharge on February 17, 1950.
Mr. Brothers was employed for many years as a machinist at the former Charlestown Navy Yard and later at the Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford until his retirement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Thomas J. Brothers and his wife Susan of Chelmsford, Ronald A. Brothers and his wife Katie Kuntupis of Lynn and Kathy A. McCarthy of Dracut; one brother, George F. Brothers of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brothers was the brother of the late Irene P. Edell, Doris B. Ivas, Dorothy L. Sheehan, Theresa “Millie” Brothers and Warren J. Brothers.
Calling hours Monday, Oct. 20th, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral service Tuesday, Oct. 21st, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery.
