GLOUCESTER: Marguerite C. (Grace) Mitchell Saint, 94, formerly of Friend Street died Friday, October 17, 2008, in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph Mitchell who died in 1971.
Born in Gloucester on May 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Antone and Mary C. (Goulart) Grace. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester.
Marguerite was employed as a buyer at the former W.G. Brown’s Department Store on Main Street for many years. She had also volunteered at the Sawyer Free Library for the past several years.
She was a life member and past president of the Gloucester Fraternity Club and a member of the Gloucester Emblem Club No. 339. She also enjoyed dancing on the weekends.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joan M. and Ronald Jordan of Marshfield, her daughter-in-law, Benedetta M. “Betty” (Pallazola) Mitchell of Gloucester, two granddaughters, Michele Jordan of Plymouth and Audra and her husband, Randy Hughes of Mashpee, a great-grandson, Devon Hughes of Mashpee, a sister, Rosaline Tarvis of Kenneth City, FL, a brother, Leonard Grace of Gloucester and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Paul A. Mitchell and a sister, Eleanor Balcomb.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday in the Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, Prospect Street at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
