Obituary

Paul L. Cormier, 86, of 40 Lincoln Street died Thursday, Oct. 16 in St. Vincent Hospital after a brief illness.
He leaves a son Drew P. Cormier and his fiance Carol Howe of Spencer, a sister Therese M. wife of Clement J. Trudeau of West Boylston, his former wife Angie M. (Provencal) Cormier of North Brookfield and his beloved dog "ICY"and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by seven brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Cormier was a jeweler for more than 50 years at Cormier Jewelers in Southbridge and and at onetime owned Cormier Jewelers in Ware, before retiring in 2006.
Born in Spencer, he was the son of Fred L. and Emma L. (Tetreault) Cormier. He graduated from David Prouty High School and attended several area colleges in New England. Paul served his country during WWII as a Lieutenant J.G. in the U.S. Naval Air Corps for 6 years. He was a flight instructor and the 1st. Naval aviator in Spencer. One of his many students was Charles DeGaul's son who he instructed how to fly.
He was an inventor, having invented several tools used in the jewelry industry. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle which he rode until the week of his death.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 21 from 4 to 7p.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. The family request that flowers be omitted and contributions made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, Inc., P.O. Box 147, Spencer, 01562.
