Obituary

Fred Bernard Barber of Mystic, 76, died peacefully on October 15th surrounded by his family, surrendering to his long battle with lung disease.

He is survived by his loving wife whom he married at the Union Baptist Church of Mystic 56 years ago, Marion Bradley Barber; his daughters, Susan Gibson of Ledyard and Alison Wydler of Mystic & her husband James; a son, Fred Barber Jr. of Groton &his wife Lori; a granddaughter, Lauren Gibson; 2 grandsons, Andrew and Bradley Wydler; a great granddaughter, Sofia; his brother, Paul Barber Jr. of North Stonington and various nieces and nephews as well as his friends. He was predeceased by his parents Helen and Stanley as well as his younger brother Kenneth.

He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, lobstering, gardening, watching and hearing about his 2 grandsons baseball games and also his granddaughters progression thru college (The 3 Doolies).
He was a lifetime member of the Groton Sportsmen Club and The Free Masons Coastal Lodge #57, and was a member of The Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Norwich.

Mr. Barber was employed by Davis-Standard in Pawcatuck for 40 years, leaving in 1990 as Plant Manager.

His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 6-8pm. A Memorial service will be conducted at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Saturday at 11am. Private burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Mark’s Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl St, Mystic CT 06355 or a charity of your choice.
