Frank James Hurt, Jr., 79, of Anderson, South Carolina died of natural causes on Monday, October 13, 2008, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008, in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Father Ron Davidson will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 2008, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Hurt was born on August 18, 1929 in Aiken, South Carolina and was the son of Frank James Hurt and Willie Mae Goodwin Hurt, both deceased. He graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946-1949. He attended the Navy School of Music and served as a China Marine between World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following the service, he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1954 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. He was a member of the Georgia Tech Marching Band and served as captain. He had a full career with Burlington Industires for 31 years, retiring as an Executive Vice President. During his life, he served in many volunteer capacities to include the Jaycees, the Boy Scouts of America in Virginia, the Rotary Club in Arkansas, President of the Youth Council of Monticello, Arkansas, Board member of Commercial Bank of Monticello and other club and social organizations in Arkansas, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. He was an active member of the Episcopal Church in all the communities he lived in. He was most recently a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Anderson, South Carolina.
Mr. Hurt is survived by his wife, Constance "Bunny" Julian Hurt of Anderson, South Carolina; two daughters, Sandy Hurt Payne and her husband, Robert, and their daughter, Hallie Payne of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Angie Quarles and her sons Michael, Christopher and Jordan and daughter, Connie and great granddaughter, Reagan of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sons, Frank J. Hurt III and his son, Garrett Hurt of Atlanta, and George J. Hurt and his wife, Angela Hurt, of Henderson, Nevada.
