Joseph Donald Sheehan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Sunday October 12, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 80 years old.
Donald was born in Boston. He grew up in Charlestown, where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Boston English High School in 1945. He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1945 and served his country during World War ll and was discharged in October of 1947. Following his discharge, Donald enrolled at Boston College and recieved his degree in accounting as a member of the graduating class of 1952. He worked as an accountant for over 30 years with Raytheon Corporation in Waltham before retiring in 1989. He was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus.
Donald is the beloved husband of 55 years to Kathleen "Kay" (Connolly) Sheehan. He is the devoted father of Geri Anne Ferri and her husband Eugene of North Reading and Kathleen Sheehan and her husband Theodore Noell of Wakefield. He is the loving grandfather of Joseph and Anna Ferri and Bridget Noell. He is the beloved brother of Edna Phalan of West Roxbury, Elizabeth Crosby of Weymouth and the late Jean Sheehan.
Donald's Funeral will be held on Thursday October 16, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday October 15, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
