James V. "Pete" Godwin, 65, of Enigma died Saturday, October 11, 2008, in Tifton. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, in Enigma Cemetery. Rev. Mike Bennett will officiate with burial to follow in Enigma Cemetery. Eddie Gibbs, Robert Spivey, Donald Harris, Joey Hall, Cecil Giddens and Greg Shoupe will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Godwin was born on March 10, 1943 in Hertford, North Carolina and was the son of Archie M. Godwin and Bessie Cartwright Godwin, both deceased. He was retired from Union Camp and was of the Methodist faith. He served in the United States Army National Guard and as a Reserve of the United States Army.
Mr. Godwin is survived by his wife, Katherine Wynell Wetherington Godwin of Enigma; one son, Kevin Godwin of Enigma; two daughters and one son-in-law, Melanie and Eddie Gibbs of Enigma and Tammy Spivey of Tifton; one sister, Jean Jenkins of North Carolina; and two grandchildren, Madison and Marlie Spivey, both of Tifton.
