Florence (Scott) Morris of Lakewood Colorado, a former resident of Needham for many years died on Wednesday, October 8th at Life Care Center of Evergreen, in Colorado. She was 87 years old. Born in North Derby VT, her mother was a nurse and her father a carpenter. She had one stepbrother, James Mackenzie. Their family lived in Elmira until she was 13 when her mother died of a heart attack. Following her mother’s death, Florence (Scotty) went to live with her grandmother in North Derby, Vermont.
Florence attended Grammar School in Elmira, New York and high school at St, Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. In 1938, Florence moved back to Elmira to attend the Elmira Business Institute. Later in life, she also attended the Bible College in Kansas.
Florence played active roles in Scouting and volunteering with special needs children. Florence also belonged to the Sew and So’s to mend clothes for charities. Florence traveled to Europe, the Holy lands and around the US. She had a lifetime love for learning and also attended many Elder Hostel classes.
Florence recently began painting. She has always had beautiful penmanship and has previously expressed her artistic talent mainly through her sewing.
Her favorite saying is “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”
The one constant in Florence’s life has always been her unwavering love for God.
Florence’s first husband was shot down over France in WW II. After the war, Florence met John J Morris, married and had four children. After thirty years of marriage Florence and John divorced.
Florence is survived by her children Walter, Ellen, Anne, Christina and her Grandchildren Paul, Elizabeth, Walter, Lynn, Victoria, Naomi, Jesse and Gabrielle.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at 1PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting will be held on Tuesday from 12Noon to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Interment at Needham Cemetery.
