Edward F. Stawasz, 83, of Dartmouth died October 11, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the beloved husband of Hilda (Carvalho) Stawasz.
Born in Wareham, the son of the late Peter and Karolina (Hilbroner) Stawasz, he lived in North Dartmouth most of his life.
Mr. Stawasz was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
He was formerly employed as vice president of New Bedford 5 Cents Savings Bank for many years until retirement.
Mr. Stawasz served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was the recipient of the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with 1 star, the Philippine Liberation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Freetown Memorial Post 6643 Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed attending the Dartmouth Seniors, St. Hedwig Seniors, St. Casmir's Seniors and the OLPH Seniors. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, dancing and traveling.
Survivors include his beloved wife; 2 beloved daughters, Carol S. Congdon and her husband Richard of Huntington Beach, CA and Joyce Reis and her husband Kenneth of South Dartmouth; 4 brothers, Walter Stawasz and William Stawasz, both of New Bedford, John Stawasz of Torrance, CA and Stanley Stawasz of South Dartmouth; 4 beloved grandchildren, Aaron Reis, Ryan Reis, Kelsey Reis and Amy Congdon; several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Wanda Babola and Joseph Stawasz.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday, October 21st at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, October 20th from 4-8 PM. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
