Simeon “Sam” Costa, age 88, a Tiverton resident for 57 years. Passed away in Fall River October 11, 2008. Beloved husband of Lucy (Mathias) Costa of 67 years. Born in Fall River, son of the late Simeon and the late Verita (Silvia) Costa. He was an Army Veteran of WW II & the recipient of a Purple Heart for being wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. Prior to retiring in 1985, Mr. Costa worked for the Public Works Department on the U.S. Naval Base, Newport, RI. He was a parishioner of St. Christopher Church.
Besides his wife of Tiverton, he is survived by two sons: George T. & wife Diane M. (Talbot) Costa of Somerset and Stephen P. & wife Nancy (Sullivan) Costa of Plymouth. Five siblings: Gil Costa & Florence Almeida both of Somerset; Ernest Costa & Geraldine Mello both of Fall River; Adeline Vieira of Tiverton. Four grandsons: Russell P. Costa of Swansea; Ryan T. Costa of Somerset; Todd S. Costa of Bloomfield, NJ; Timothy S. Costa of Auburn, MA. Five great grandsons: Justin, Zachary, Sean, Alex, & Logan Costa; One great granddaughter: Taylor Costa. He was the father of the late Paul Costa & brother of the late John & Frank Costa, Mary Cadime & Rose Moniz.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME 1521 N. Main St. Wednesday at 8:30 A.M. with a funeral mass in St. Christopher Church, Main Rd. Tiverton at 10:00 A.M.
