Marcel W. Gingras, 95, of North Smithfield, formerly of Flat St., and Ballou St., in Cumberland, died Friday at St. Antoine Residence. He was the husband of the late Anais (Guilbeault) Gingras, who died in 1978, and companion of Alice Trahan of North Smithfield.
Born in Bellingham, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Menard) Gingras. He was raised in Bellingham and resided in Woonsocket for several years, before moving to Cumberland where he made his home for over 60 years.
Mr. Gingras worked as a steeple jack for Coast-to-Coast Inc., and was previously employed with the Mansurel Worsted Co. as well as several other textile mills in the area.
Marcel traveled extensively, including several cross-country trips throughout the U.S. and Canada, and spent winters in Florida and summers on Cape Cod.
Marcel was a true outdoorsman and derived much enjoyment from his years of camping, boating, and fishing with family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Roger L. Gingras, and his wife Nancy, of Yarmouthport, MA, a daughter, Rachel P. Toupin, and her husband Armand, of North Smithfield, five grandchildren, Donald Toupin, Denise Lalibertie, Diane Fisher, Devon Gingras, and Danica Gingras, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was the brother Henry Gingras, and Juliette St. Germaine, both of Bellingham, Betty Champeau, of Coventry, and the late George, Julian, and Emile Gingras and Yvette Rattie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Tuesday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Tuesday morning from 8:00-9:30 am prior to Mass.
