
J. Daniel Walsh of Needham, formerly of Concord died on Thursday, October 9th at his home surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old. Mr. Walsh graduated from Boston College with the Class of 1950. Prior to Boston College, he was a Staff Sgt in the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division during WWII. Dan was a prominent banker in Boston for 38 years. He began his banking career at the Boston Trust Company, which later was named New England Merchants National Bank, and ultimately, Bank of New England. He was a senior executive and was a member of the bank's Management Team. Upon his retirement from Bank of New England as a Senior Vice President in 1989, J. Daniel became President and CEO of the New England Automated Clearinghouse Association, of which he was the Founder. He retired from the New England ACH in 1996. He was the beloved husband of Ann (Macfarlane) Walsh and the late Edith (Neas) Walsh. Dan was the loving father of Edith's and his six children: Susanna Walsh Thorne of Pittston, ME; Elizabeth Walsh Mandrioli of Concord; David M. of Boise, ID; Daniel E. of Bedford; Mark D. of Westford; and Jennifer Walsh Frain of Hamilton. Dan was also the loving father of Ann's and his two sons: Richard F. of Cambridge; and Matthew P. Walsh of Washington, D.C. Brother of the late William, David and Rosemary Walsh. Also survived by eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ave., Needham, on Tuesday, October 14 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave., Needham, on Monday, October 13, from 4-8 PM. Interment with Military Honor will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in J.
