Obituary

Robert A. Smith Sr., of Eastham, formerly of Arlington, died suddenly Tuesday, at home. He was 65.

Mr. Smith was born and raised in Medford, the son of the late Aubrey and Agnes (Lund) Smith. After graduating from Medford High, Robert attended Tufts University, Northeastern University and received his degree in engineering from University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Robert lived most of his life in Arlington and worked as a bridge and structural engineer for the Mass. Highway Department. He was the long-time treasurer for the MOSES Union, was a member of the Eastham Elks and had the distinction of being a 40-year blood donor for the American Red Cross. After the death of his wife, Rosemary, Robert lived in Reading before settling on Cape Cod for the past 5 years.

He was the beloved husband of the late Rosemary C. (Rizzo) Smith. He was a devoted father to Robert A. Smith, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Wilmington, Christine Smith and her husband Ronald Furmaniuk of Sterling, Carol A. White and her husband Jeff of Everett. He was a loving grandfather to Rosemary M. and Collin Patrick Furmaniuk. He was the dear brother of Ellen Patterson of Falmouth, ME and J. David Smith of Natick and is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Monday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church, 30 Medford St., Arlington, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting Hours Sunday 3 - 8.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, 285 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA 02116 or to the charity of One’s choice.
