Obituary

John J. "Jake" Shebaugh, 73, of Peckville, died Tuesday at home after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He and his wife, the former Irene Chury, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in July.

Born in Gouldsboro and raised in Old Forge and Taylor, son of the late George and Mary Zara Shebaugh, he graduated from Taylor High School, class of 1953, and served in the Army for two years. He was an active member of Holy Ghost Church and his community. A photographer, he worked with his brother, William Pete Shebaugh of Taylor, for Shebaugh Photo. Before retirement in 1995, he was a mail carrier at the Peckville post office for 13 years. He became postmaster in 1973 and served in that capacity for 22 years.

His family gives a special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sean McCall and Dr. Seth Jones and all of the Mercy Hospice staff, especially Lizabeth, Donna, Amy and Chris for their kindness and compassion.

Also surviving are a son, Jake Jr., Fairfax, Va.; and a brother, William and wife, Maria, Taylor.

Funeral services will be Saturday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Muldowney. Interment, Holy Ghost Cemetery, Olyphant.
